The Flame Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Orion. It is around 1350 light years from Earth.
 
The horsehead nebula in the same frame is a small dark nebula ~1375 light years from Earth.
 
The red colour is from ionised hydrogen gas Blue colours are generally resulting from a reflection nebula where the interstellar dust grains reflect blue starlight.
